The technician behind every instrument we touch.
Seven Octave Piano is led by Michael S. Chung, a master piano technician who cares more about how your instrument sounds and feels than about how many pianos pass through the door.
Craft over volume.
I am the head technician and owner of Seven Octave Piano. My areas of expertise are action restoration, custom rebuilding, action regulation, piano repair, and hammer replacement. As a tone-regulating specialist, I am one of the few technicians trained in the detailed hammer voicing that adds depth and color to an instrument’s tone.
Unlike larger companies where you may meet a different, less experienced technician each visit, every service here is performed by me. I remember you, your instrument, and exactly how you want it to sing. I believe your piano should yield an exquisite voice, one that inspires you to keep playing, day in and day out.

Why the Renner Academy matters.
Renner, based in Germany, makes the hammers and hornbeam action parts used by many of the world’s premier piano makers. Completing the Renner Academy’s Grand Piano Action Master course means studying fine action work and premium German components directly at the source. For the owner of a fine grand who is choosing a shop rather than price-shopping a tuning, that kind of specialization is the whole point.
That training shows up in the work that defines Seven Octave Piano: complete rebuilds of Steinway grands, new Renner blue point hammers regulated and voiced to a professional standard, and the patient, meticulous restoration of instruments that deserve to be kept rather than replaced.

Work with a technician who remembers you.
Whether your piano needs a routine tuning or a complete rebuild, I would love to help.
